NHS Long Term Plan Refugee and Asylum Seekers Men's Focus Group

As part of our Engagement work on the NHS Long Term Plan we wanted to capture as many resident voices as possible especially the ones which are seldom heard.

We attended the weekly mens group that is facilitated by the Refugee Council and is very much a "round the table discussion" which fitted in perfect for our session. The men spoke very good English and did not require the services of an interpreter. We explained about Healthwatch and what we do before going through our power point presentation talking about their general experience of health and social care.

The men had lots of ideas on how access to services could be improved and how communications especially in schools would help get messages to the older members of their communities.

As part of our engagement work on the NHS Long Term plan we wanted to make sure we reached as many residents as possible to ensure that their voices were heard. We know that the voices of Refugees and Asylum Seekers are very often missed and we wanted to give them the opportunity to have their say.
