What health and social care issues should Healthwatch Barnsley look at for 2024/25?
We need your help so that we can focus our projects on the things that really matter to people living in Barnsley.
By filling out this short survey, you can tell us what is important to you and your family so that our work can really make a difference to the lives of those we represent.
The survey is open until 31st May 2024 and it will help us to plan our projects in advance in response to trends that we see. We will also be able to react to new priorities if we identify emerging issues.

Working together to build a healthier South Yorkshire
Last year we ran a campaign to ask people in South Yorkshire ‘What matters to you about your health and wellbeing?’ You may remember giving us your views?
The feedback we received helped to write the Integrated Care Partnership Strategy ‘Working together to build a healthier South Yorkshire’. This Strategy sets out how all partners, including councils, the South Yorkshire Mayor, and voluntary sector organisations can play their part in building a healthier South Yorkshire, working with health services.
It also helped NHS South Yorkshire to develop the Joint Forward Plan, which sets out how the NHS will change to help deliver on the Strategy’s commitments.
From January to March 2024, Healthwatch Barnsley will be doing some more focus groups with the people we spoke to last year. We want explain what's been done, ask them how it felt to be involved and to ask how they feel about the current services now.
We'll upload a report on our findings, when all our focus groups are complete. So keep a look out!
Issues you have told us about
Adult Safeguarding in Barnsley
This December, we'll be asking people what they really know about adult safeguarding and would they know what to do or who to contact, if they thought someone was in danger.
Access to Dentistry
We know there is a problem nationally with people being able to access NHS dental appointments and this is something we are working on both locally and nationally. Please keep us updated with your experiences - good and bad!
Hygiene Poverty Awareness in Barnsley
Following on from our last Hygiene Poverty event in October 2022, we are starting 2023 off with a bang and doing a mini roadshow across the borough of Barnsley. We have developed a survey that asks questions like:
- Have you ever had to go without essential hygiene/sanitary products?
- Where on your list of priorities does buying hygiene products sit?
- Would you say the cost of hygiene products has increased over the last year?
- Do you feel that not having access to basic cleaning products could have a detrimental effect on your health
Access to GP services in Barnsley
Following on from our report in June 2022 we are keen to hear
- Have you found it easier to access your GP Services as restrictions ease?
- Have improvements to the telephone systems in Primary Care helped?
- Are you still struggling to book appointments?
- Has anything changed for you?
