Deciding to make a complaint?

Making a complaint can feel daunting and scary, and you might be wondering whether it's worth the time and effort. However, if you have problems with an National Health Service (NHS) or social care service, you need to resolve this to get the care you need.

Knowing how and who to complain to

If you are unhappy about any aspect of your health or social care, or the service you received, it is best to talk first with a member of staff involved in your care. If they are not able to help you or you feel unable to speak to them, you may want to make a formal complaint and you will need to follow the correct complaints procedure.

Healthwatch Barnsley cannot take a complaint on your behalf, but we can point you in the right direction for advice and information.

We've worked with Healthwatch England to produce straightforward advice, which will guide you through the process from knowing who to talk to, top tips on what to do and what you can expect from services in response.
