Junior doctors take to picket lines

JUNIOR doctors went on strike for three days across Barnsley this week - and hospital bosses expect the fallout to cause disruption in the coming days.

Starting on Monday at 7am, the strike action continued until 7am yesterday, with junior doctors asking the government to reverse the ‘steep decline’ in pay faced over the last decade.

Staff were on the picket lines outside the hospital during the three-day strike.

A hospital spokesperson said: “It’s very likely disruption to services will continue into Friday, so please bear with us if this is the case.

“We thank you for your patience and understanding, and would like to reassure you that, as always, patient safety remains our absolute priority throughout the Trust.

“Regardless of any strike action taking place, it is really important that patients who need urgent medical care continue to come forward as normal, especially in emergency and life-threatening cases - when someone is seriously ill or injured, or their life is at risk.”
