Can you help your local foodbank?

With school summer holidays approaching and the current cost of living crisis the Salvation Army Foodbank at Goldthorpe are appealing for donations.

Healthwatch Barnsley donated over £150 worth of food when we attended for our monthly outreach session on Monday (18th July). Alison the manager was overwhelmed with our donation but confessed she fears they will be struggling to meet demand over the coming weeks as families as faced with providing extra meals for hungry children.

We have people coming to us crying because they can’t afford to eat and are having to ask for help.

Alison Sykes, Church Leader Salvation Army, Goldthorpe

Summer holidays are a difficult time for many families but there are lots of activities being organised locally to entertain the children without breaking the bank. The soaring energy bills and increasing food costs are having a big impact in the Dearne. Alison told us

"We are getting more requests for support due to the cost of living crisis and are struggling to cope with the demand as people are coming from a wider area. Schools, health visitors and doctors often refer people to Salvation Army support. We are running short of basic store cupboard items like long life milk, one pot meals and pasta because demand is high."

Our Engagement Officer Dani attends the Foodbank Session on a monthly basis to offer advice and information about health and social care services and to receive your feedback about any service that you have used recently.
