People and staff from all walks of life become members. They elect the Council of Governors and help shape hospital services in Barnsley for the benefit of local people.
How much members get involved is entirely up to them. Anyone can become a member so long as they are at least 14 years old.
We have over 10,000 members, so join us today and have your say.
You can sign up by following this link: https://secure.membra.co.uk/Join/Barnsley or by scanning this QR code
The benefits of being a member include:
- Have your say in how your hospital is run
- Membership is free
- Receive regular hospital updates
- Register for the NHS discount scheme
- Apply to become one of the hospital Governors
As a member you can apply to become a Governor. The Governors play a valuable role by holding the non-executive Directors to account, ensuring the interests of the Trust’s members are taken in to account and by helping to shape the Trusts plans for the future. Being a Governor doesn’t take up as much time as you might think. The minimum commitment to being a Governor at Barnsley Hospital is around 10 hours per year – this is to attend our regular Council of Governor’s meetings. These meetings are done online and full IT equipment and advice is provided.
The Council of Governors is made up of people who have joined as members of Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and have been elected to stand on the council of governors by their fellow members. There are 17 public governor seats on the council.
There are five staff governors’ seats which are elected by staff and cover all staff groups at the hospital.
There are seven governors’ seats which are nominated from partner organisations such as Barnsley Council and Barnsley College.
